Lynn Tan is the Founder and CEO of The Powder Shampoo. Lynn is a veteran in the Hair Care industry. Over the past 20 years, she established a successful beauty distribution business in Asia while also being a mother to her 2 daughters & a son.
Q: What’s your Inspiration?
“The inspiration for The Powder Shampoo came to me the moment I learnt that Greenhouse Gas Emissions will increase to 49 metric tons by 2030 and will double by 2050, eroding the place we call home. At this rate, the sad reality is that my grandchildren would not have Mother Earth to call home. This fact shook me to my core.
I took time to do some soul searching to reflect on my business ethos and how in the grand scheme of things, a lot of old practices did not make sense. From there, I set out on a mission with a vision to change the way we shampoo. I believe there has to be a better, smarter and more sustainable way for us to care for our hair. I had the vision to create something that retains the cleansing power of a foaming shampoo yet is also pleasurable, vegan & toxin-free. Most importantly, how could I make it without using plastic packaging? So thus, The Powder Shampoo was born.”

We believe in the healing power of plants & aromatherapy. Hence we formulated our vegan shampoos with the best botanical extracts, essential oils & enhanced with our proprietary THYME CAPSULEDTM. Powerful ingredients such as Coconut, Corn, Licorice Root, Papaya Enzyme, Pre + Probiotics, Rice Protein, Vitamin B6 & B7 are included in all the formulas. The Powder Shampoo foams richly like any liquid shampoo and it is free from Sulphates, Parabens, Phthalates, Silicones & the nasties.
Our 4 shampoos come in brightly coloured recyclable and reuseable aluminium bottles which goes against the trend of single use plastic bottles. Over 80% of aluminium in the world is recycled versus 9% of plastic. Aluminium can be recycled forever while plastic cannot. To remain plastic-free, The Powder Shampoo will be producing 100% paper refill pouches so customers can continuously reuse their aluminium bottles. We use eco-friendly kraft honeycomb paper & mailers instead of plastic.
During shampoo manufacturing, large amounts of water are wasted. Regular liquid shampoos contain 80% to 90% water. We understand water is precious & finite. By removing water from our shampoos, we save 5 plastic bottles from landfills and we conserve 5-litres of water. The Powder Shampoo gives you over 150 washes; lasts 5x longer than liquid shampoo, so you buy less. The Powder Shampoo is so light to transport, we effectively reduce our carbon footprint by over 90% while shipping.

As a true blue Singaporean and Entrepreneur, Lynn Tan (Founder of The Powder Shampoo) made it her mission to work with local companies to develop her brainchild. She worked closely with Consumer ChemicalsmTechnology Centre (CCTC) - to develop these 4 Shampoos. Instead of producing with a OEM cosmetic manufacturer, The Powder Shampoo will be lovingly manufactured in a factory that is specially set up by Lynn & her team in Singapore.
The Powder Shampoo consists of a dedicated team who has 10 - 20 years of Hair Care experience from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and China. We have the know how, the passion and a clear vision in Hair Care production, operations and sales. We have consulted, diagnosed and helped thousands of customers with their scalp and hair conditions to achieve healthy scalp and beautiful hair. That is our philosophy and our passion. We are here to revolutionise the way we care for our hair.
